Gaylon Melvin Porter

We celebrate the life of Gaylon M. Porter, 88. Gaylon was born on February 21, 1924 to Abbie and Robert Porter in Garber, OK. On May 15, 1943, he married the love of his life, Elaine Ragoss of Hunter, OK. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and then returned home to continue wheat farming and raise his growing family. In 1965, the family moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for the Daily Oklahoman. Gaylon and his wife remained in Oklahoma City where they managed rental properties and he later retired from Sears Automotive. Gaylon had a smile that could light up a room. He lived for his children and his grandchildren, but was always available to take care of anyone in need. He never complained of hard work, rather, he relished in it. He was a happy and grateful person every day of his long life. After eleven years apart, he is now in heaven with his wife Elaine. He leaves to mourn his loss one sister in law, Rita Cornelson; two sons, Rick Porter and Tom Porter; one daughter, Patty Porter-Brumley and her husband David; grandchildren Whitney and her husband Joseph, Michael and his girlfriend Nina, Heather and PJ; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org or the charity of your choice. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, November 29th from 10am-5pm at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10am at The Village United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at Garber Cemetery in Garber, OK at 2pm.
