George Jay, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 82. George was born in Oklahoma City to George and Lillian Jay, he graduated from Central High School and obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma, College of Medicine. After his internship, residency and serving honorably in the US Navy, he started his practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Oklahoma City and continued for over 30 years. George was certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and he was a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, as well as the Clinical Orthopedic Society. He served as Chief of Staff at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, and was past president of the Oklahoma State Orthopedic Society.
Although his career as a physician and surgeon was a successful one, he would tell you his biggest achievement and source of joy, was his strong catholic faith, his 57 year marriage to his wife Alice and their three children. George and Alice's beautiful life together was full of tennis, sailing, wonderful friendships, volunteering at Christ the King School, Boy Scout Master, singing in the Christ the King choir and traveling with their children.
In retirement, one of his many passions was studying and playing the clarinet and saxophone. He was a member of the Oklahoma City Symphonic Band, where they performed at many local venues. He enjoyed reading scripture and anything about U.S. History. He practiced his catholic faith at the St. Anthony Hospital Chapel where he was a Eucharistic minister and lector.
He is survived by his wife Alice; his son, John Jay of Alpharetta, Georgia; his daughter, Jackie Parks of Fort Worth, Texas and his son Jeff Jay of Dallas, Texas. George was very proud of his nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachael and Christopher Jay, Truitt, Jay and Alison Parks and Parker, Ellakate and Annabelle Jay.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Monday, the 29th of January at 1:30 PM. Should friends desire, memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the St Anthony Foundation, Cardiology Fund, 601 NW 11th Street, Oklahoma City, Ok 73103.
