He graduated from Nichols Hills Elementary School where he was one of two students in his class. He then attended Harding Junior High and graduated from Classen High School in 1945. He was a member of and baptized at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, where he received a pin for perfect attendance in Sunday school and church for ten years. He was active in football, baseball, and tennis. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop #14. Bud loved to fly airplanes, he got his private pilot's license at age 16 at Wiley Post Airport at Britton Road and May Avenue. World War II called him and he left high school early to join the U.S. Navy at age 17. Bud then became a Baylor Bear, attending Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. After graduating in May of 1951, with a Bachelor of Business Administration, he returned home to Oklahoma City to work at Harris Meat Packing Company, which his father started in 1914. He started working there when he was a young boy and was the last of the four brothers to own it, before he sold it in 1990. He was a member of the Oklahoma City Stockyards Lions Club, he was a Committee Man with the Boy Scouts of America, served on the finance committee of Village Baptist Church, and served on the Board of Baptist Hospital (now Integris Baptist Medical Center). With his four children and their friends, he also enjoyed the outdoors, and boating on Lake Tenkiller. His favorite spot was "The Farm", where there were countless picnics, parties, fishing with family and friends, and Boy Scout camp outs with Hal and Glenn earning their Eagle Scout Badges and 2 beautiful outdoor weddings for Linda and Laura. Bud was a member of the Quail Creek Country Club for over 50 years. He loved playing tennis with his friends, traveling to Scottsdale and California for Club tournaments and France for the French Open. He was tricky on the tennis court being able to play right and left handed. After tennis, his favorite past times were playing solitaire and enjoying his grandkids. He was a fun loving, wonderful husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor, and love of family. Always thinking of his family first.
