Grady Bateman

On February 24, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, Carl Grayden Bateman, Jr. ("Grady") left his earthly home for his heavenly home. He courageously battled cancer for nearly three years. Grady was born on November 2, 1950, in Marlow, Oklahoma to parents Carl G. and Owana J. Bateman who preceded him in death. He was a devoted and loving husband to Claudia Barrett for 45 years. Grady and Claudia met in the 3rd grade and were friends from elementary school through college and married in 1971. He is affectionately remembered by his 3 children, Brian Bateman and his wife, Jodi, of Edmond, Julie James and her husband, Tim, of Tulsa, and Emily Elkin and her husband, Jason, of Oklahoma City. He was a wonderful granddad ("Pop") to Katelynn Noel Bateman and Aubrey Barrett Bateman. Grady is also survived by his sister, Joanna Gardner, of Oklahoma City and extended family. Following in his father's footsteps, he proudly served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, retiring as a Captain (Inf) after 24 years of service. Grady sold semi and cattle trailers for over 40 years throughout the U.S. From 1986 to 1996, he owned and operated Bateman Trailer Sales, Inc., specializing in the sale of Barrett livestock trailers. It was during this time he was a member of the Stockyards Lions Club and served a term as President. Grady was an honorable man. He loved The Lord, his family, and his country. He served as Deacon at Quail Springs Baptist Church ("QSBC") and especially loved being a member of the QSBC FIT team. During retirement, Grady enjoyed volunteering for Baptist Disaster Relief of Oklahoma. A memorial service in honor of Grady will be held on Monday, February 29th at 2:00pm at Quail Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the QSBC Children's Ministries or a charity of your choice.
