Hazel Shaw Kendrick went to be with the Lord, Feb. 29, 2012, from her home in Oklahoma City. Hazel was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Haughton, LA but moved to Ruston, LA at an early age where she graduated from Ruston High School and attended Louisiana Tech. In 1942, she married her husband Carl, and stayed happily married for nearly 70 years. Hazel was an active member of Quail Springs Baptist Church serving in the choir, active in the Women's Missionary Union serving a term as president, taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees. Hazel was a life member of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Integris Baptist Medical Center, serving a term as president, and member of the Hospital Foundation Board. Hazel served as treasurer of the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons and was president of her local chapter. She was preceded in death by her father Nacy Alex Shaw and her mother Lena Dunn Shaw; brothers John Ross Shaw, Archie Shaw, Jimmy Shaw and Alex Shaw and sister Lucille Shaw Traylor. She is survived by her husband Carl B. Kendrick; her son, Rock Kendrick, wife Susan and their children, Keitha Kendrick Wagner, her husband, Erik and their children, Mayson and Micah; Barret Kendrick, his wife, Tracy, and their son Larsen; Rocky Kendrick and wife Casey, all of Covington, LA; son Bob Kendrick, his wife Gloria, their daughter Michelle Lowe and her daughters Madeline and Tobie, all of OKC; two sisters, Sybil Shaw Covington of Point Blank, TX, and Hellon Shaw Hodge of New Iberia, LA. Hazel will be remembered for her love for Christ, love for her family and compassion and service to others. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her caregivers and to Hospice of Oklahoma County. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Smith-Kernke Funeral Home located at 14624 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City. The service celebrating Hazel's life will be Monday, March 5, 2012, 2 p.m. at Quail Springs Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
