Heather Dian Everett

Heather Everett was born on May 30, 1968 and passed away on May 25, 2015. She was the beloved daughter of Dian and Royice Everett and is survived by them and her brother, Joshua Everett, his wife, Eileen and their children, Isabelle and Asa of Oklahoma City; Aunts and Uncles, Cathleen and Brad Hegge of Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin and Retta and Ransom Snowden of Erick, OK; cousins, Amanda Hegge, Matthew Hegge, Leah Snowden Barker, Stacey Snowden Davis, Chad Snowden and Tyler Snowden, and numerous other relatives and friends. Heather graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.S. in Psychology, a B.A. in English and a Masters in English with focus on Medieval Literature. She was an avid reader and worked for a time at Powell's Book Store in Portland before going to the University of Oklahoma where she earned a M.S. in Library Science. Heather was the Children's Librarian at Lawton Public Library for 8 years from 2007 to the present. She was passionate about instilling a love of reading in all children and developed programs from Baby Story Time to Teen Book Club. Her Teen Volunteer Program was extremely popular and her devotion to children and to books was unmatched. Heather enjoyed spending time with her family at Grand Lake and was at the hospital to welcome her nephew, Asa Price Everett when he was born in March of 2015. Aunt Heather loved reading to her niece, Isabelle, especially "Pete The Cat" books. As Pete would say, " I guess it simply goes to show that stuff may come and stuff will go, but do we cry? Goodness no, we keep on singing." This was how Heather lived her life. Heather dedicated the book to Isabelle, writing "Things will come and things will go but I will love you forever." We will love you forever too Heather. Heather was an amazing example of grace under pressure. Diagnosed with spinal cancer at age 12, Heather beat all the odds, living a productive and inspirational life despite her disability. When it was evident that her cancer had returned on Easter Sunday 2015, Heather affirmed her gratefulness to God for a wonderful life. She spent the last weeks of her life at her parent's home, surrounded by love. Friends and family from near and far visited, to say their goodbyes and Heather greeted them with a smile, her trusted dog, Rhu by her side. The family wishes to thank Dr. Stan Pelofsky for his medical expertise and his long and loving care of Heather over the past 35 years. They are also grateful to Autumn Bridge Hospice and would like to thank Hazel and Cathy for their help and kindness to Heather. Friends may call at the funeral home. Thursday, May 28 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral on Friday, May 29 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to Children's Programs Friends of the Library, 110 SW 4th St., Lawton, OK 73501.
