Helen Applewhite Walker passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010, in Oklahoma City. She was born October 31, 1915, in Ballenger, TX to James K. Sr. and Beulah Skaggs Applewhite. Soon afterwards, she moved to Tahoka, TX, where she was valedictorian of her senior class. She attended college at Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX, where she met her husband, Prentice Walker, while he was attending North Texas State Univ. She moved back to Tahoka and continued her college education at Texas Technological College in Lubbock, TX, and was a devoted Red Raider fan until her death. She and Prentice were married in Tahoka in 1935. She moved to Brownfield, TX in 1949 where she was secretary and copywriter at the local radio station. In 1959, she moved to Cloudcroft, NM where she opened Helen's Gift Shop. During her lifetime, she loved football and was an avid golfer. In 1977, she moved to Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Prentice Walker. She has two surviving children, James P. Walker, Sr. of Oklahoma City and his wife Janet, and Jill Walker Climer of Edmond. Helen leaves one granddaughter, Sheryl and her husband Dave Walser, four grandsons, James P. Walker, Jr. and his wife Kelly; Michael D. Walker and his wife Gloria, all of whom reside in Dallas; Jeffrey R. Walker and his wife Shalena of Jasper, TX; and Jason Climer of Denver, as well as one step-granddaughter Stephanie and her husband Doug Johnson of Tulsa. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters, Victoria, Alexandria, Cameron, and Claire Walker, and three great-grandsons Adam, Andrew, and Zeb Walker along with numerous nephews and nieces.
