Hank Tiarks passed away August 29, 2010 of cancer at the age of 69. He was born in Iowa and as a young man served in the Peace Corps and the USAF. In 1973, he moved to OKC to work with World Neighbors. After a career change he taught Special Education in the Mid-Del School District for 26 years.
Hank was a friend to youth. He served 24 years as volunteer soccer commissioner for the Catholic Grade School Athletic Assoc., and with long-time friend Gonzalo Guaman managed the referees for the Hispanic Soccer League since the 1980s. He and his family were a host family for FAA international students and for the American Field Services Student Exchange Program. He is survived by wife Sheila, daughter Maria of Washington, DC, son Brian and daughter-in-law Leslie, granddaughters Madeline and Lauren of Katy, TX. He is also survived by sister Patricia Bergsten, brother Warren Tiarks and brother-in-law Stanley Longmeyer, all of Iowa.
