Herbert Kriegel of Oklahoma City passed away February 5, 2014 at the age of 92. Herbert was born January 10, 1922 in Tigerton, WI to George and Alvina (Kohn) Kriegel. The oldest of five children and valedictorian of his high school class, Herbert attended the University of Wisconsin until enlisting in the U.S. Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in the Philippines and occupied Japan attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. After the war he returned to complete his degree in Civil Engineering. Herbert worked for Southern Railway from 1947 until 1984 retiring as Chief Engineer of Bridges. Herbert married Gloria May Jones in Corinth, MS on June 2, 1956. They were married 56 years until her passing on June 7, 2012. Herbert is survived by two sons, Jay (Julie), David (Pam), five grandchildren, Jason, Jenna, Madeline, Max, Eleanor, and one sister, Dorothy Hille of Tigerton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, two children, John and Kathryn, his parents, two brothers, and one sister. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Herbert's interests included travel, history, and sports. An avid storyteller, he enjoyed sharing experiences and memories of his travels, his time in the military, his professional life, and his family. Herbert lived a life of faith and devotion to his Lord. His wisdom and love will be missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb 14th, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, N. May. A private burial service for family will be held Saturday, Feb. 15th, at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Brill Chapel at Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Penn. Ave, Oklahoma City.
