Homer Buck

Homer Trigg Buck, Jr., 96, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born on January 5, 1929 to Homer T and Bertie (Bryan) Buck in Chandler, Oklahoma. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma where Homer grew up as the youngest of three children. Industrious from an early age, he had a paper route, sacked groceries at a local grocery store and was the Senior Class president and ROTC Cadet Captain. After graduating from Guthrie High School, he attended Oklahoma A&M University (OSU) and received a B.S. of Business.

Homer took a job in Accounting with Oklahoma Gas & Electric until called to United States Air Force active duty at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. Following his release, he went to work for Oklahoma Gas & Electric in Muskogee, Oklahoma. It was here that he was introduced to that “cute little gal from the Gas Company (ONG)”...and the rest is history! Homer married Lois Jeanne Smith on April 15, 1961 and they were happily married for the next 63 years.

Soon they started their family and Robyn and Susan were born. He adored the role of Daddy and he was truly the best! Always an example, he was a godly servant leader in all areas of his life. He was an active listener, patient, loving, wise, and humble with an ever positive outlook. In addition to being an active father and husband, he was also a member of Exchange Club of OKC where he enjoyed helping students attain college scholarships.

Homer and Lois were active members of Village Baptist Church and then Quail Springs Baptist Church (formerly Nichols Hills Baptist) where they were members for over 50 years. He served in multiple capacities as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School teacher, greeter, usher, and anywhere he was called to serve. After an early retirement from OG&E, he worked for Coates Roofing and Arbogast & Co. in an accounting capacity. After his second retirement, he could be seen at Integris Baptist Medical Center serving from the coffee cart on Wednesdays with a friendly smile and a kind word to all. His favorite role as a retiree was that of “Papa” and he excelled in that as well!

Homer and Lois moved to Epworth Villa 4 ½ years ago. As Lois’s dementia moved her to different areas of the facility, Homer was the epitome of dedication as he went to visit her at least twice a day without fail. They were very blessed with wonderful caregivers - too many to name them all - but Ruth (AL 3rd floor) was a very special one for Homer. Thank you also to Dave Fraser for faithfully and regularly visiting Dad.

Homer is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jeanne, his parents, sister Noreen Perdue, brother Harry Bernard Buck (Alice), and grandson, Nathan Banther. He is survived by his daughters Robyn Shadid (Johnny) of Edmond and Susan Banther (Darin) of San Antonio, and grandchildren Brian Shadid (Michael Dennis) of OKC, Rachel Shadid of Edmond, Jackson Banther (Bryanna) of Gonzales, LA, and Abigail Banther of Edmond. He also had many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12 from 5 – 7 pm at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N May Ave, OKC 73134. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Thursday, February 13 at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N May Ave, OKC 73134 with graveside services to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
