Howard W. Motley, Jr.

Howard Motley, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, co-worker, and friend, died suddenly at his home on July 13, 2011. Howard was born on June 29, 1948 to Howard Sr. ("HAP") and Louise Motley. He attended the University of Oklahoma and later received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Oklahoma City University. Howard worked as a utility regulatory consultant for 11 years and served for 17 years on the staff of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. He took great pride in his service at Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), where he had worked since 2001. He began with OG&E as Manager of Rate Strategies and became Director of Regulatory Affairs and Strategy before being promoted to vice president in 2006. At the time of his death he was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for OG&E where he led the company in its rate cases, filings and other regulatory proceedings with the state regulatory organizations in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Some thought Howard's fondness of an orange tie and handkerchief was an affinity to a local state university, but he was quick to point out that it represented OG&E orange. In all of this, those outside of OG&E would never have known his prominent role in the company as his humility was as profound as his work ethic. It is no accident that his most treasured time of work life coincided with his marriage to the love of his life, Kimba, for these last ten years. They were inseparable and truly became an example of the love of God through the love they shared with one another. If he had any regrets it was that it took most of his life to discover that transformative love that he shared with Kimba, but no doubt he would say, with a smile on his face, "Better late than never." He glowed when he spoke of his daughter Madison. She had recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma and Howard took great pride in the young woman she has become. Howard also shared a special love with his extended family, which include his brothers Doyle and wife Marieta, Cletus and wife Jane, sister-in-law Kreissy Zerger; nieces and nephews Laura Jarvis and husband Trey, Dylan Motley and wife Krista. He cherished family gatherings with his siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Nothing was greater or more important in Howard's life than his faith and love for Jesus Christ. He, along with Kimba, was a faithful member of the parish community at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. His generosity in time, talent, and treasure was a sign of the great love he had for the Catholic Church and his parish community. Howard spoke openly of his faith and love for Christ. He kept copies of Thomas Kempis' work "The Imitation of Christ" which he would give out to those who he thought might benefit from its' insights. Howard joined many others as a friend of Bill W. He was proud to stand with those who had come to grips with their own addictions, as well as those who continued to struggle, always ready to be a voice of love and encouragement. Funeral services will all be held at the Cathedral at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3214 N Lake Ave, Oklahoma City. There will be a wake service on Sunday, July 17, at 4:00 pm with Deacon Paul Lewis presiding. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 18, at 2:00 pm with Monsignor Edward Weisenburger presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Howard's name to the Education Endowment of Bishop John Carroll School, 3214 N. Lake, Oklahoma City, OK 73118. "May the angels lead you into paradise. May the martyrs come to welcome you, and take you to the Holy City, the new and eternal Jerusalem."
