Hubert Bash "Hugh" Hunt passed away on August 15, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born on June 18, 1924 in Lincoln, NE to the Rev. Dr. Ray E. Hunt and Ada Bash Hunt. Hugh was a graduate of Lincoln (Nebraska) High School and Texarkana (Texas) Junior College. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in geology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration degree with High Honors from Oklahoma City University. Hugh was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, a Fellow of the Institute of Petroleum, a Certified Geological Scientist, and an Honorary Life Member of the Geophysical Society of Oklahoma City. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. In junior college he was President of Delta Psi Omega (Honorary dramatic fraternity), and at the U of M, he was President of the five house Inter-Cooperative Council. He served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Oklahoma City and was honored by being named Elder Emeritus in Crown Heights Christian Church. He was associated with several corporations involving both domestic and foreign oil exploration: National Geophysical Company as a geophysicist, Western Geophysical Company as a geophysicist, Magnolia Petroleum Company (Mobil) as a geological draftsman, Atlantic Refining Company (ARCO) variously as a geophysicist, party chief-experimental electrical survey crew, party chief-experimental seismic crew, party chief-seismic oil exploration crew geologist, Sinclair Oil Company (senior geophysicist, district geophysicist), and Texas Pacific Oil Company (district geologist, regional geophysicist, and with affiliated Companies). He was briefly with Texas Pacific Oil Company Espana, as Vice President and resident manager. For a short while he served Texas Pacific Canada as manager of geophysics. His European tour included service with Texas Pacific Oil (UK), Inc., as President and managing director. With Sun Texas he was a regional exploration manager, Sunmark as district manager in geophysics and Walter Duncan Oil Properties as chief geophysicist. Just before retirement, he joined The Superior Oil Company where he was the manager in charge of setting up a new Mid-Continent division headquartered in Oklahoma City. He published several articles in leading trade and technical magazines and was the principal author of a well-received book on energy sources. Hugh is survived by his beloved wife, Eugenia Ann Miller Hunt of Norman; son, Paul Hunt and his wife Cynthia of Houston; son, John Hunt and his wife Jennifer of Houston; daughter, Ann Hunt of Norman; and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Hunt. Memorial Services will be held at Crown Heights Christian Church at 3pm on Friday, August 17, 2012.
