Hue Thi Bui Vu

On November 20, 2019, Hue Thi Bui Vu received her angel wings and peacefully went into God's inviting arms. Hue was born on October 8, 1946 to Hoi Cong Bui and Thiet Thi Bach in Can Tho, Vietnam. She met the love of her life, Long Kim Vu in 1972 and they married in September of 1973. In the spring of 1975, they fled Vietnam and started a new life in Oklahoma. This included raising a beautiful family and completing a successful 20-year career at Lucent Technologies.Hue was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having all her family together. She loved gardening and was known for her flowering landscape and her larger than life banana trees. She was deeply religious and played an influential role shaping the spiritual life of hundreds of Vietnamese and American youth during her over 40 years volunteering with the Our Lady's Cathedral religious education programs. Her life lessons always focused on God's gifts and blessings. Hue was incredibly intelligent with a quick wit, but humble and treated everyone with kindness. She was always ready to share a smile or give a hug. Hue loved traveling and made sure her children's summer breaks and vacations were filled with road trips across the country. Above all, Hue was defined by her faith and integrity. She was admired and loved by all who met her and was a strong and respected wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her most prized role was being "Ba Ba" to her four grandsons Alexander and Andrew Davis and Parker and Quinlan Vu. She was an excellent seamstress and could whip up a pair of lounge pants or trucks pillowcases in a snap. They were the joy of her life and she loved them fiercely, always carrying a handful of pictures to proudly show everyone her boys.Hue is preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Long Vu; their children, Maihan Vu and her husband Christopher Davis of Chapel Hill, NC, and Huy Vu and his wife Sarah Beth of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind many sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends that were family. Her legacy is one of devotion to God, steadfast loyalty to family, and extreme joy for each and every day.In honor of Hue, wear something purple, have family over for dinner, enjoy some fresh flowers, or give someone a smile and hug.
