Irene Marina Robison, beloved wife, mother, grandmother "Arnie,"sister, aunt, daughter and friend, was born Sunday, December 26th, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, and passed away Saturday, August 5th, 2017, in Oklahoma City. Although her date of birth and death are significant, it's the 68 years, 7 months and 10 days in between that mattered to Irene, and to her family. She made countless memories and traditions with her family, leaving them with a lasting legacy of love, devotion, faith, and the importance of relationships. With an unwavering faith in God, love for Jesus and her family, Irene exuded a radiance, warmth, beauty and kindness still felt today by all those she touched.
The eldest of nine children born to loving, Christian parents, Juan H. Ontiveros and Marina Espinoza Ontiveros-Gomez, Irene always cherished her large, close-knit family. Her solid foundation in faith, love and family influenced Irene's daily life, and prepared her to meet the love of her life, Ralph Robison, at church in 1976. Ralph invited Irene to see The Nutcracker, which became a holiday tradition. That night, as they watched the beautiful dancers and story unfold on stage, it was then that Ralph and Irene's dance began. The dance continues today in the lives and hearts of their three children: Micah, Aaron and Abbie, and in their beautiful grandchildren Irene loved so dearly: Garritt, Atley and Kate.
Married in 1978, Ralph and Irene had a beautiful 39 year marriage. Their song was "Evergreen" by Barbara Streisand, and together they discovered Evergreen, Colorado. It was their honeymoon spot, and visiting there became an annual tradition they shared together as a family. Irene's last trip with her family to beautiful Evergreen, was shortly before her passing. Her family is grateful for the memories together.
Her daughter, Abbie says, "Everything Mom touched was transformed into something beautiful." She will never forget her Mom singing to she and her brothers when they were little, "This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it." Her family knows she is now rejoicing in Heaven.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'" Proverbs 31:28-29
Irene loved the character, "Marmie," in the novel, Little Women. While she always wanted to be known as "Marmie" by her grandchildren, her oldest grandson, Garritt, couldn't pronounce "Marmie," calling her "Arnie" instead. It stuck, and was perfect.
