Iris Ann Heatley Spain Bailey went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2018. She was born September 1, 1938 on a farm near Wanette, OK to John Wesley and Gladys Heatley. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1955 but returned home so that she could graduate from Trousdale High School at the age of 15. Soon after graduation she started working for First National Bank in Oklahoma City. Ann was employed by United Founders Life Insurance for most of her career working her way up from the switchboard to executive assistant. A lifelong learner, Ann furthered her education and obtained her Fellow Life Management Institute insurance certification in addition to many other honors. She finished her career at First Life Assurance as Vice President of Human Resources.
Ann believed in equality. She worked to further women's rights and advocated equal pay for equal work. She taught by example that ALL of God's children deserve love and respect. Later in life Ann served in the women's group at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City where she found her heart's church family.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers - Leon Heatley and his wife Charlee, and Doyle Heatley, his wife Wynelle and their daughter Lee Ann; three sisters - Virginia Cash, Lora Thomas and Ruth Frejo and her husband Jessie Frejo. She is survived by her son Marc Spain, his wife Elena and their three children - Dimitry Medne, and Molly and Connor Spain; three daughters - Donna Spain-Bryant and her husband, Jack Bryant, Lisa Spain and her husband David Wheeland, and Shari Spain and her wife Kaycee Wilson; and her step-son Rob Bailey and his wife Mandy and their four children - Garrett Biliske and his family, Hunter Bailey, Jackson Mitchuson and Gracie Bailey; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13th at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 1401 NW 23rd St., Oklahoma City. Family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 14th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1441 S.W. 104th St., Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Wanette Cemetery.
