James A. 'Jim Weinmann' Weinmann

James (Jim) Weinmann passed peacefully into eternal life with our God on Friday, February 8. Diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer in Jan., he died with his wife and his mentor and friend Archbishop Emeritus Beltran at his side. Jim was born in Atchison, KS, son of Arthur & Regina (Wolters) Weinmann, and grew up on a farm south of town. He attended St. Patrick's Elementary & Atchison County Community High School. At age 18, he joined the Kansas National Guard where he served for 9 yrs. He attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, graduating with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in 1959. After starting his teaching career in Augusta, KS, Jim spent 30 years as an educator. He was principal of Marion High and Augusta Jr. High Schools. Desiring to work in the Catholic Schools, Jim became principal of Bishop Carroll High School, Wichita. He served as Director of Secondary Education and Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Wichita. Moving to Oklahoma City in 1986, he became principal of Christ the King Elementary School. For the next 20 years, he worked for Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. He served as Director of Stewardship and Development, Director of the Catholic Foundation, Director of Quest 2000, and Manager of Archdiocesan properties. Prior to retiring at age 76, he was Director of the Archival Heritage Room. Jim was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross in 2005. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marguerite Frisch Weinmann, son Daniel (Julie)Weinmann, grandchildren Veronica (J.T.) Frankeny, Rebecca (Michael) Vaughn, Christopher, Elizabeth & Jeremy Weinmann; daughter Mary E. (Greg) Johnson, grandchildren Kathryn & Michael Johnson; son Dale Weinmann ; daughter Jane (David) Harris, grandchildren Danelle (Ryan) Zemke & Crystal Harris; 2 greatgrandchildren, Aidan & Carly Vaughn. Surviving sisters are Dorothy Kistler, Rosemary Falk and Josephine Moore. He was a life-long Catholic and faithful member of Christ the King Church. A member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 yrs., he was active in Council 12669.
