James Allen Hyde peacefully passed away on Christmas Eve at home with his family by his side. Jim was born in Oklahoma City on November 16, 1945, to Charles and Margaret Hyde. He was a 1964 graduate of Harding High School, and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he received a degree in accounting and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He earned a degree in Law at Oklahoma City University. Jim began his career as an accountant at Kerr McGee and in 1970 became the controller of Bone and Joint Hospital, later serving as President of Bone and Joint Hospital and McBride Clinic and serving on the board of St. Anthony Hospital until his retirement in 2010. Jim served the community by providing leadership on numerous boards and agencies. He served as president of the Oklahoma Chapter of YPO, the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, and chaired the Arthritis Foundation board, the EMSA board, and the Art's Council and Festival to the Arts. Together with his wife, Laurie, he chaired the Heart Ball. In 1995, Jim was recognized by The Arthritis Foundation with the Award of Excellence and in 2000, he received the Richard H. Clements Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Way of Metro Oklahoma City.
Jim was an avid golfer and participated in numerous trips with his "CHOPS" group including Runamuck in Minnesota and the annual Phoenix trip. His love of friends included his "Rice and Beans" group who met every Tuesday over the last 10 years. He was a true epicurean, with a love for cooking, and a passion for fine wine. In addition, Jim and his beloved wife, Laurie, enjoyed traveling, entertaining and sharing life with good friends and family. In recent years, Jim and Laurie made a second home in Florida where they loved to host their children and grandchildren, making life-long memories for everyone.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his son Jimmy Hyde. He is survived by his wife, Laurie McCann Hyde; his sister Helen Schille; his daughter Rev. Laurie Hyde Moeller, husband John; son Jimmy McCann, wife Emily; and daughter Margot McCann. He loved being "Grumpie" to his 5 grandchildren: Anna Kate and Sara Moeller, Henry Tebbe, and Margaret Elle and Millie McCann.
A memorial service will be held at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church on December 29th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jim to the building fund of Level Creek UMC (4844 Suwanee Dam Rd. Suwanee, GA 30024) or to the United Way of Oklahoma City.
