James Booher

James Thomas Booher passed away at home on October 5th, 2024. He was born November 11th, 1930 in Luther, Oklahoma to Roy Curtis and Eunice Taylor Booher. A graduate of Luther High School, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War and later graduated cum laude from Oklahoma City University’s School of Business. He pursued a career in corporate accounting until 1998 when he dedicated the rest of his working life to working with churches in satisfying their financial reporting and administrative needs. He enjoyed volunteering with Oklahoma City’s Mummers Theater in the 1950s, which is how he met the love of his life JoAnn (Jo) Beatty who he married in 1960. They were blessed with four children: James Clayton (Michelle) of Tuttle, Carolyn Mary of Jones, Matthew Taylor (Kerrie) of Oklahoma City and Sarah Madden (William) of Paradise Valley, AZ; five grandchildren: James Colin (Nicole) of Midland, TX, Blaine Taylor (Kacie) of Oklahoma City, Monica Taylor Madden of San Francisco, CA, Andrew McGovern Madden of Milwaukee, WI, Caitlin JoAnn Madden of Paradise Valley, AZ; and great granddaughters Finleigh JoAnn and Ada James of Midland, TX.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jo, his parents and two brothers Frank and Curt. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he is survived by his younger sister Carolyn Morse of Oklahoma City and his nephew Glen (Diana) Booher of Oklahoma City and his niece Diana (Larry) Spencer of Norman and their children and grandchildren.

Jim served as a Deacon and Elder at Crown Heights Christian Church where he also served in many elective offices and was named an Elder Emeritus in 2014. Jim was also an active member of the OCU Alumni Association. Starting in 2014 he volunteered with Whiz Kids of Oklahoma, a not-for-profit afterschool 1:1 mentoring and tutoring program that cares primarily for 1st through 5th grade students in the Oklahoma City metro area reading below grade level.

Jim was an avid reader, and enjoyed sharing his passion for the arts, including theatre, music and film. He built lifelong friendships that were cultivated through connections he made with his church community, entertaining at home with happy hours, dinner clubs, and game nights. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, traveling the country to make sure he was in attendance for sporting events, dance recitals and theatre performances. He never failed to let his family know how dearly loved they were and how proud he was of them.
