After a brief illness, Jim passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning February 5, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Jim, son of Alfred James Fowler and Janet Ohly Fowler was born in Cleveland, OH on October 11, 1951 where he lived until venturing off at the age of 17 to Springfield, OH to study geology at Wittenberg University. Following graduation, Jim was hired by Texaco to prospect for oil and gas in the Midland Basin in Texas.
Before leaving Ohio, Jim proposed to and married the love of his life, Caryl (Beman) Fowler, the lifeguard at his neighborhood swimming pool. They just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
After two years in Texas, Jim moved to Oklahoma City and successfully prospected for oil and gas for the next 40 years. Jim loved rocks.
Jim enjoyed watching and participating in many sports especially tennis, basketball, football, and boating. He was a boater his entire life from sailing on Lake Erie to cruising on Grand Lake.
Just last fall, at the age of 73, Jim assembled a new bike and could be seen cruising around the neighborhood.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Caryl; daughter Christine Beaumier and son-in-law Matt; grandsons Tommy and Jake; brother and sister-in-law, David and Marygen Fowler.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15 at Smith & Kernke May Ave. Chapel.
