James L. McGee, II

James L. McGee, II

James Leroy McGee, II went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 6th, 2024. He was born on October 12, 1940 in Houston, Mississippi. He was the first born child and only son of Ronald A. and Isabel Black McGee. As a child he lived in Mississippi, Illinois and Arkansas. He graduated high school in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1958. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Musical Education from Southern State College (Southern Arkansas University). Shortly after graduating college he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the 746th Air Force Band. He served in Louisiana and Japan during his tour of duty and was honorably discharged from the service on July 2nd, 1968.


In 1968 he moved to Severy, Kansas to teach Band and Vocal Music. While in Severy he met Linda Sue Payne and they were married on June 1st, 1970. Jim and Sue taught in several Kansas towns before moving to Eureka, Kansas where they welcomed their daughter Jennifer Christine on August 30th, 1976. Shortly after their daughter was born they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.


Jim was a dedicated music educator to many beginning band students in Oklahoma schools. 


He directed the Village Christian Church Choir for 39 years. Jim loved music. He played the Baritone Saxophone in the Oklahoma City Symphonic Band and he often played his Alto Saxophone for his Village Christian Church family.


Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He leaves behind his wife, Sue, of 53 years, his daughter Jennifer and her husband Barry Hayes of Edmond, OK, and his two grandchildren Isabel Rose and Sutton James. He also leaves behind his three sisters Caroline and her husband Michael Kittredge of Albuquerque,NM, Catholine and her husband Stuart Tribble of Seattle, WA and Margie Gale of Chandler, AZ and his nephews Gordon Tribble, Kevin Kittredge and niece Alisa Ethridge.
