James "Jimmy" Prentice Walker was born September 29, 1936 in Tahoka, TX to Helen Applewhite Walker and John Prentice Walker. Later the family moved to Brownfield, TX where Jimmy graduated from Brownfield High School in 1953. He graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Geology from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, TX. While at Tech, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi. After graduating college, he worked as Exploration Manager for Humphrey Oil Corporation in Dallas, TX from 1959 to 1966. He moved to Oklahoma City, OK in 1966 where he began his career as an independent geologist. In 1968 he formed Gold Crest Corporation which became The Walker Corporation in 1976. He formed Walker Resources, Inc. in 1989 and remained active in oil and gas until his death. He was a member of the Oklahoma City Geological Society, the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the American Institute of Professional Geologist, Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, Gaillardia Golf and Country Club and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He loved to play golf, travel and spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Janet, his sister Jill Climer of Tahoka, TX and her son Jason of Denver, Co., his children, daughter Sheryl and her husband Dave Walser of Dallas, TX, son James Jr. "Jim" and his wife Kelly Walker and their daughters Cameron and Claire of Dallas, TX, son Michael and his wife Gloria Walker and their daughters Victoria and Alexandria of Dallas, TX, son Jeffrey and his wife Shalena and their son Zebulun of Village Mill, TX and sons Adam and Andrew of Lubbock, TX, daughter Stephanie and her husband Doug Johnson of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents Prentice and Helen Walker.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
