James W. Canon "Papa Jim" of Oklahoma City, departed this life to join his heavenly father on July 26, 2013. He was born January 12, 1923, to Charles G. Canon and Ruth Lowry Canon in Hinton, Oklahoma. Jim played tennis and basketball at El Reno Junior College. Jim was a Beta Theta Phi at the University of Oklahoma and received his Bachelor of Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Jim was a district land manager with Hunt Oil Company for 37 years. Jim was drawn to the happier side of life, quick witted and fun natured. He had an engaging smile and personality. Jim emphasized family first. He was a longtime member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, attending the Joy class, and participating in Meals on Wheels. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Davis Canon; father, Charles G. Canon; and, mother, Ruth Lowry Canon. He is survived by sister, Lillian Canon Boland; daughter, Deborah Davis Vogt; sons; James Charles Canon and William Louie Canon; eight grandchildren; John Vogt, Ashley Vogt Vasek, Hillary Vogt, Elizabeth Canon, Samantha Canon, Thomas Canon, Lindsey Canon and Alissa Canon; great granddaughter, Nora Elise Vogt. Jim loved all sports, and was an avid tennis player with competitive state rankings. He was a huge University of Oklahoma Sooner fan and supporter. He and his wife were longtime Sooner Football fans, attending home games for over 40 years. He was supportive of family and friends beyond measure. Jim is loved by all those who had the good fortune of meeting him.
