Janelle Elizabeth Ramsey Freeman, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 22, 2022, completing a full and well-lived life.Janelle was born on November 19, 1931, in Grandview, Texas, and grew up in nearby Itasca, Texas. In 1951, Janelle married Richard Weldon Freeman, Sr., from Oklahoma City while both were students at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.Janelle and Richard established a home in Oklahoma City where they lived for the rest of their lives after Richard completed his service in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. They had three sons: Richard Freeman, Jr.; Roger Freeman; and John Freeman.Janelle later completed her education at the University of Central Oklahoma where she obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees in education before embarking on her long career as a secondary school teacher throughout the Oklahoma City Public Schools system before her retirement.Janelle's husband of 62 years Richard, Sr., and her youngest son John predeceased her. She is survived by her son Richard, Jr., (and wife Vickie); son Roger; and four grandchildren: Rachel Ticer (and husband Bryan); Ryan Freeman; Richard (Rick) Freeman Ill (and wife Ashlee); and Katie Price (and husband Chuck). Janelle is also survived by six great grandchildren: Wyatt Ticer (and wife Hannah); Seth Ticer; Johnny Freeman; Elizabeth (Elle) Freeman; Richard (Reece) Freeman IV; and Andrew (A.J.) Price. Additional survivors include Janelle's sister, Catherine Shappard of Mesquite, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.Fiercely independent (and a proud Texan) until the end, Janelle's friendship, guidance, and advice will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on through her family and her many former students.Private family graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City on Saturday, January 29, 2022. In lieu of flowers, Janelle's family requests that contributions to the American Cancer Society be made in her memory.
