Janet Lockwood Harbour

Janet Lockwood Harbour died August 28, 2013 in Oklahoma City. She was born October 8, 1945 to Jane and Arthur Lockwood in Cleveland, Ohio, where she spent her childhood. Janet attended Hathaway Brown School through high school graduation and then attended Briarcliff College in Long Island, New York. She later attended the University of Arizona in Tucson. Following her college graduation, she married and began her family in Paradise Valley, AZ. She subsequently moved to Oklahoma City where she met and later married her husband, David Harbour. They continued to live in Oklahoma City until 2005 when David retired and they moved to Arizona. Janet had a zest for life that had few, if any, equals. She was a true Midwesterner and did her very best to live life to the fullest with humor and joy. She was truly unique, a combination of beauty, with style and grace, confidence and humor. All would agree Janet didn't just make you laugh and smile sometimes; she brought laughter and smiles every time you were with her. Her conversations were never about herself but rather about you. She loved her golf buddies, her bridge buddies and being with others. She was always game for fun and adventure. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles and was an expert with Words with Friends. You name it and she would make it a fun experience. She never missed a relative or friends' birthday, anniversary or special day. She wrote wonderful cards and notes that were always fitting and chosen with care to make you feel special. She found time to run her family foundation enjoying the philanthropy begun by her grandparents and carried on by her family. But her children were most important in her life. She was a wonderful mother and proud grandmother, seeking always to assure her children's happiness and well being, whatever the cost or sacrifice, and was forever proud of the wonderful, strong and loving persons they have become. Janet was a believer, but wouldn't dare claim to have been a perfect person. She may have erred on occasion, and perhaps she may have sometimes been frowned upon, but there is no doubt she is with the Lord now, talking with Him and making Him laugh while learning much of and from Him. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jane Lockwood, aunt, Ruth Hankins, and brother, Edward Lockwood. She is survived by her loving husband, David M. Harbour, daughters, Suzanne Martori Martin and husband Ryan and their children, Elizabeth Ruth Martin and Molly Jane Martin all of Dallas, TX; Kristin Martori Lambeth and husband Tate and their soon to be born son, Lockwood Elkins Lambeth of Dallas, TX; son, Michael Tarwater and his wife Hollie of Shawnee, KS; and uncle, Gordon G. Long of Palm Beach, FL. She is also survived by David's children and grandchildren whom she loved and treated as her own, Laure and husband Kevin and their children, Claire, Madeline and Spencer; and Julie and her husband David and their children, Riley and Grace; and by Janet's many friends made during her lifetime. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Crossings Community Church Chapel. Contributions may be made in Janet's memory to a favorite charity.
