Janette Huggins McNenney was born in Enid, OK on April 10, 1922 to Jesse and Janet 'Nettie' Huggins. She passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 in Oklahoma City. As a young child her family moved several times before settling in Hinton, OK in 1932. This became her home for the next 8 years and she visited often over her lifetime. In high school she sang in a quartet, performing at various events and competitions. She graduated from Hinton HS in 1940 and moved to Oklahoma City in 1941 to live and work. In July 1942 she met Eugene McNenney, an officer in the United States Air Corp. Although he was her second date for the evening, he is the one that won her heart. They were married December 31, 1942, and a month later he shipped out for 26 months. During that time she went to work for Mrs. Brown, of John A. Brown's Department Stores. Upon Eugene's return from WWII, she quit work and they spent the next few years at various Air Force bases and in Atlanta, GA where Eugene finished his Masters degree. They returned to Oklahoma City, where their son, Bruce, and their daughter, Jeanie, was born.
Janette was a homemaker with extraordinary cooking, knitting and sewing skills. There wasn't anything she couldn't make or at least give it a try. She sewed for her daughter and grandchildren. Many of her friends received knitted baby blankets or quilts over the years. She excelled at needlework, gracing not only her home, but the church she so loved.
She and Eugene taught first grade Sunday school at Northwest Christian Church (DOC), for 40 plus year. She rarely missed church or any events that were occurring at church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her Sister, Frances Jean, and her brother, James Andrew, her husband, Eugene in 2011, her son, Bruce in 2005; and her grandson, John in 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanie (Charlie) Caldwell, grandchildren, James Caldwell, Colin (Alyson) Caldwell, and Connie (Jason) Proctor, also, great-grandchildren, Jack, Claire and Emma Caldwell, Ashley and Olivia Proctor, Will, Pepper, and Wes-Lee Hahnfeld.
The family would like to thank Pastor Donna Gilchrist and Nancy deQuevedo for their endless visits and care for Janette. Also, for the care Mary, Fran and Pat gave her at Bellevue over the past 5 years.
