Janice Doetzel Griggy died on June 24, 2023. Jan was born on May 15, 1937, in Canton Ohio to parents Laurine and Mathias Doetzel. Her early education was in Canton, and she earned a B.S. degree in Education from Kent State University in 1959. In 1996, she obtained a M. Ed. Degree in Community Counseling from the University of Central Oklahoma.Jan viewed her careers as an elementary school teacher, and a psychotherapist as being very important, but her career as a wife and mother to four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild occupied the majority of her time and was the most important aspect of her life. Jan was always an avid reader and spent many happy hours creating beautiful art pieces for many friends and family. She was particularly interested in jewelry making, stained and fused glass, painting, and pottery. Her artistic work and decorating skills adorned many previous homes as well as the homes of her children and grandchildren.Jan was an active volunteer in every community in which she lived. In Oklahoma City, she was a Board Member of the Zoological Society and a member of the Animal Committee. She served on the Women's Committee of the Symphony Orchestra in several capacities, and she chaired several committees for the Symphony Showhouse. Jan was an active volunteer at the YWCA Rape Crisis Center and served as the volunteer representative on the Board of Directors of the YMCA. She has served as an Ambassador to the City Rescue Mission.Jan is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kenneth J. Griggy. She is survived by her children Jill Kuhns and her husband Neil Kuhns of Tucson, AZ and their children Emily Ball and her husband Derek Knowlton of Tulsa, OK; Holly Lonergan and her husband Christopher Lonergan and their son Colin Lonergan of Woodbridge, VA; Eric Ball of San Diego, CA; Matthew Griggy and his wife Michelle Carpenter and their children Zachary Griggy, Christopher Griggy, Katy Carpenter, Kelsey Carpenter, Kayla Carpenter of Novato, CA; Kenneth Mark Griggy Escalante and his husband Michael Griggy Escalante and their son Nicholas Griggy Escalante of Seattle, WA; and Jennifer Griggy of Oklahoma City.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Casady School in Oklahoma City, OK.
