Janice Eileen Day passed away on Christmas Eve in Oklahoma City following a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1948 in Clinton, Illinois, the daughter of Burl Marion Day and Juanita Annis (Harris) Day. She grew up in central Illinois and graduated valedictorian of Maroa-Forsyth's class of 1966. She earned a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Illinois State and a Masters of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught elementary school for 40 years and retired from Oklahoma City schools in 2010. She was nominated several times for teacher of the year and was a finalist for OKC Public Schools in 1993-94. The 3rd grade gifted class at Stonegate Elementary is where she left her mark. She was loved by her family and friends. Her husband, Howard Johnson, preceded her in death on June 4, 2019. She is survived by her siblings: Joyce (Doug) Carolus, Joann (Joe) Woolums, and Larry (Cynthia) Day; children: Laura (John) Cross, Tommy (Anne) Bromley; step daughter: Cathleen Hood (Serjik Ohanjanianse); grandchildren: Zack (Amilla) Hood & Augustene (Martin) Clement; Danielle & Joshua Cross; Rilee, Molly, Madeline & Megan Bromley; and great grandson, Ace Hood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, December 28 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Smith & Kernke N. May, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel.
