Jimmie B. Crowell

Beloved husband of 53 years and devoted dance instructor of over 60 years, Jimmie Crowell, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his home. He was born in Depew, OK, on an Indian Reservation on Sept. 18, 1930. He owned and operated his studio in partnership with Kotche until he opened his own at 1921 N. Meridian which he operated for 50 years. Jimmie served a tour in Germany in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. One highlight for Jimmie and his wife Carol Ann during the early 60's was a 6-month primetime show, "A Good Time for Music" featuring the Al Good Orchestra. He also danced on television with his first dance partner in 1950. National fame came to Jim and Carol due to creating a difference and becoming a teacher's teacher. They taught Ballroom, Jazz, Tap and Spanish dance as a team or solo on every major dance master organization in the US. He wrote the first American Syllabus for Spanish dance. Jim served as area Vice President for Dance Masters of America for 5 years. Many of his students have opened their own studios and are still in operation. He served as Eucharistic Minister and Announcer for over 25 years at St. Joseph's Old Cathedral. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parrish. He is survived by his wife and dance partner of over 53 years, Carol Ann; sister, Mary Fabra and husband Norman; sister-in-law, Ruby Mersman; nephew and niece, Duane and Karen Mersman; God-Children, Layla Voth and Lisa Niemeyer; and countless students and friends. He loved each so much.
