Jimmie Don Story, retired OKC Police Officer, died March 12, 2012 as a result of a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 28, 1948 in Chickasha to the late Joseph William and Julia Etta Story (Carnes). The family was proud to be members of the Choctaw Tribe. He attended schools in Chickasha and entered the US Marine Corps in 1965 achieving the rank of Sgt. He served in Vietnam as a Recon Marine and later on Embassy Duty in Calcutta, India and Tunis, Tunisia where he met his wife, Beverly. After they were married, Jim and Beverly established a home in Norman, Oklahoma where Jim attended the University of Oklahoma and became an OU Police Officer. He later graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma earning a degree in Public Administration. In 1973, Jim joined the OKC Police Department and served for 30 years as a patrol officer, detective and supervisor. He was decorated for Meritorious Service in 1994. He retired as a Lieutenant in 2003 and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, James, Justin and Ryan, daughter-in-law, Heather, of OKC; granddaughters, Marie Story of Carthage, NY and Charlesana Story of Norman, OK. He is also survived by brothers, Gerald (Verna) of OKC, Ben (Marie), Alford (Wanda Brunt) of Chickasha; sister, Gail Nixon Chavers (Jerry) of Chickasha; brothers-in-law, Wayne LaVarnway (Colleen) and Bernard LaVarnway (Cindy) of Saranac, NY; several nieces and nephews and by his life long friend and comrade, Charles Mike McIntyre.
