Joe Carrillo began what would be a long and fruitful life on March 20, 1930. He left this world on September 25, 2024. He was born to Maria (Gomez) and Bruno Carrillo in Oklahoma City. From an early age, respect, hard work, and dedication would be the cornerstone of not only Joe’s life, but his children and grandchildren as well. Joe attended Central High School, where he met Edith McIntire. After graduation, Joe was called up to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Ulm, Germany. He was certainly proud of the time he served his Country, and his family is equally as proud of his service. He brought back many stories that he liked to share with family and friends. Upon his return to states, he and Edith became engaged and subsequently married on August 28, 1954. They had a wonderful marriage, and just recently celebrated their 70th anniversary! Joe always spoke of how grateful he was, that they were both able to travel together, and enjoy life to the fullest. Grandchildren frequently accompanied Joe and Edith on their many trips over the years. They both truly cherished their presence, and they in turn have so many memories to carry them forward.
Joe is survived by his wife Edith, daughters Debbie (Carrillo) Ford and her husband Kevin of Broken Arrow, OK, Jennifer (Carrillo) Blankenship, of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren Patrick Ford, Hillary Ford, Harris Blankenship, and Hayden Blankenship; as well as many nephews and nieces. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers and sisters.
Joe will be remembered by those who remain, as a patient teacher of life’s lessons. Although quiet and reserved, he was always thoughtful of others. His work was exacting, and he took pride in everything he did. In his younger years, he was an adept car mechanic and made sure his daughters and granddaughter knew the basics as well. He was truly a strong person in so many ways.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. David Fisher and Dr. Alex Topliceanu for their longtime care which allowed Joe to have an active and productive life prior to hospice care. We also want to send hugs and thanks to Angelina, Brandy, and Ray of Elara Caring, for the compassion that Joe received during his last months in hospice. Their dedication to his comfort and care was also extended to the entire family as well.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel. A graveside service will follow immediately after the Mass.
