John Card McMurry, 72, of Oklahoma City, OK, died on October 4, 2016. He was born in Sentinel, OK on June 18, 1944, the son of Anna Jo Card McMurry and Dr. James F. McMurry. John graduated from Harding High School 1962, Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1966 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was active with the W&L debate team. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1971 where he served with distinction on the OU Law Review. John served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He and Martha Merritt were married on January 24, 1970. He has practiced law in the Oklahoma City area for over 40 years. John was a member of First Christian Church in Oklahoma City and more recently Crown Heights Christian Church and led the Lamplighter's Sunday School class for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Susan McMurry Foubert and husband John; brother, James Finley McMurry, Jr. and wife, Becky; brother, William Lee McMurry and wife Lyn; grandchildren, Margaret Sarah Foubert and William John Foubert; nephews, James Finley McMurry III, David Joseph McMurry, and Joseph Ray McMurry; and niece, Anne Adair McMurry. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncle, William Lee Card, and aunt, Alva Card. After a private burial in Sentinel, OK, there will be a memorial service at Crown Heights Christian Church in Oklahoma City on Monday, October 10 at 1 p.m.
