John D. Carl died on 7.9.18. He was born in Geneva Nebraska on July 3, 1920 to John and Adelia Carl. After graduating from Geneva High School he spent time in a CCC camp where he worked as a medic. He was called into service in the Army following WWII and spent two years in Korea. He returned to Omaha NE. after his military service where he took a job with Wilson Foods. He worked for Wilson for forty years in both Omaha and Oklahoma City. He met Helen Mary Weise in Omaha and the couple were married on June 14, 1952. His dedication to Helen remained throughout his life. They were married until her death in 1994 and shared 42 years together. The couple had four children, Mary, Kathy, Laurie, and John. They moved from Omaha to Oklahoma City in 1970 and John worked at the headquarters of Wilson foods. Following his retirement at 61 years of age, John took a job at Bishop McGuiness Catholic High School where he served as the Business Manager. His dedication to sound financial policy was appreciated and after 19 years of service he retired again at 80 years of age. He was a lifelong Catholic and daily communicant. He was dedicated to the Knights of Columbus and served as the Faithful Navigator for the 4th degree in the State of Oklahoma. He served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister at his home parish St. Francis of Assisi. At 85 years old, John chose to move into St. Ann's retirement center where he could attend mass daily and live out his days. He lived at St. Ann's until the day he died. John was well liked by many. He was a hardworking, simple man of faith. In his younger days, he enjoyed his pool and throwing parties for family and friends. Most of his grandchildren learned to swim in grandpa's pool. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen, as well as his parents and four younger siblings, Cletus, Elizabeth, Robert, and Bill. He is survived by his daughter Mary Males and husband Joel of Edmond Oklahoma, daughter Kathy Kindell of Cleveland Oklahoma, daughter Laurie and her husband Victor Purdy of Windsor CO, and son John and wife Keven Carl of Norman Oklahoma. John also had 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, July 12 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm; an Evening Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 pm both at Smith Kernke N. May Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday July 13, at 10:00 am at St. Ann's Retirement Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested for Bishop McGuiness High School Scholarship Fund.
