John Lee Walkup

John Lee Walkup was born on March 14, 1967 to Richard and Pamela Kay Walkup. He passed away on Tuesday evening Jan. 25 at the age of 54 years, 10 months and 12 days.John attended First Baptist Church of Hollis and trusted Jesus as his savior in his youth, a relationship he carried into his adult life. His love of life and making other people laugh showed his tender heart.John was always smiling and cracking jokes from an early age. He was known better to friends and family as T-John and was very involved with sports as the Hollis Tiger's team manager during high school, becoming the only non-player to get a broken ankle from a tackle!John's cousins, nieces, and nephew have fond memories of his funny disposition. Everyone knew when John showed up to a family event there would be plenty of laughter and joy. John treated his friends as family. He wanted nothing more out of life than for those around him to be happy!John received a bachelor degree in accounting from OU in 1989. He later received his doctorate of law in 2005. He had many varied and interesting positions in his years as a CPA, CFO, and attorney in the OKC metro area.John's professional career and leisure pursuits resulted in many life-long friendships he dearly treasured.In April of 2016 John married the love of his life, Teri Ellis. Their years together brought John another layer of joy and love he had wanted throughout his life. He loved the instant expanded family he gained by their union!After years of hard work, John's health began to decline and he moved to Weatherford in December 2020 to be closer to his brother.John Lee Walkup was preceded in death by his mother Pamela Kay Walkup and his father Richard Grant Walkup; his maternal grandparents, Dewey and Orene Caswell—who helped raise him; paternal grandparents Ray and Mary Helen Walkup; and step daughter Elizabeth Johnson.Survivors include his brother, Michael Grant Walkup and his wife Lauren, their children: Ashley Walkup of Weatherford; Blake and Michelle (Walkup) Compton of Lakeside, CA along with their children Adeline, Levi, and Judah; Morgan and Chelsea Walkup of Edmond along with their daughter, June; his wife Teri Ellis, her family, Stanley Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Adam Johnson, and grandchildren, Ameisha, Avery, and Adan; sister Chris McCullar Kennedy and Jill Kennedy; along with aunt Connie Scott; uncle V.J. Cooley and wife Cindy; and a host of cousins.
