John Lindon Overton

John Lindon Overton was a man who loved his family, his friends, and his Sooners. He passed away on April 5, 2024, after a life well-lived. He was a great storyteller, proud Oklahoman and Louisianian, prankster and dear friend to all.

John was born on October 15, 1948 in El Reno, Oklahoma and spent most of his young adulthood in Louisiana before returning to Oklahoma.

John was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized into His church on March 26, 1961, at First Presbyterian in Monroe, La.

John was a proud Tiger at Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana. During this time there, he became an Eagle Scout and an Order of the Arrow with Troop 28 at First Presbyterian in Monroe.

He went on to attend Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe where he was a proud member of Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order.  In 2014, John was inducted into the White Province Court of Honor of Kappa Alpha Order. His KA relationships were of utmost importance throughout his life.

He returned to Oklahoma City in 1974 to work for Oklahoma City Scenic Co. as its Louisiana representative.  This is when he met his ultimate love, Meg who he asked to marry him (twice), and they were married in 1977. John became president of OCSC in 1983. Business opportunities took John and Meg to Media Specialties in San Antonio and then to Hoffend and Sons in Honeoye, New York.

He, Meg, and daughters Katie and Ashley returned to Oklahoma City after the death of his parents, and he worked with Triple C Lighting and Controls for over 20 years before retirement.  He served as Director of Controls and Theatrical Sales among other roles and was well-known as an expert in his chosen field of theatrical stage systems. Some of the beautiful lighting attractions around OKC today have a piece of his creativity and handiwork in them.

John was a loyal friend who always went out of his way to make others feel seen and make every moment beautiful and special. He will be so missed by his friends and family.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents John J. Lindon and Mary Francis Lindon and Frank L. Overton and Sara Overton; father Charles Wilmon Overton and mother Catherine (Kay) Mary Lindon Overton, and the love of his life, wife Margaret (Meg) Greer Hopping Overton.

He is survived by his daughter Ashley Hankins, her husband Chris of Argyle, TX, granddaughters MacKenzie Hankins and Avery Hankins, daughter Katie Overton and her wife Holly Krivokapich of Houston, Texas, and sister Carole (Overton) Shean and husband Rodney Shean of Franklin, TN, as well as his nieces, nephew and other extended family.
