John Sutton Clark

John Sutton Clark 3 December 1954 - 16 February 2019 A fifth generation Oklahoman, John Sutton Clark was born to Jack and Carolyn Sutton Clark on December 3, 1954 in Cushing, Oklahoma. Following his graduation from Cushing High School in 1973, he attended the United States Naval Academy and was a graduate of Oklahoma State University. A collegiate member of Sigma Nu, John embodied the fraternity's creed: to believe in the life of love, to walk in the way of honor, to serve in the light of truth. John didn't just believe in a life of love-he lived it. He loved his Lord, family and friends. He loved golf, OSU Cowboys, good music...Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole, Chicago, The Eagles, Earth,Wind and Fire, more recently Kenny Chesney. He loved hugs!! He loved doing puzzles. He loved telling stories of past experiences and hearing people laugh. He loved spending time with friends and family at Lake Tenkiller and sailing in the British Virgin Islands. He loved a nice glass of Dewers 12. He loved jeeping, skiing, and snowmobiling in Colorado. He loved doing canon balls in the pool with his grandson Daniel and running in circles on his putting green with his granddaughter Kate. He loved his dog Callaway and his grand dogs, Huck, Dixie and Penny. He loved cooking a feast for friends, a great steak for his mother-in-law and smoking meats like his Papa Sutton. He loved cooking beef stroganoff like his grandmother, Mom Mom. He loved to talk. He LOVED!! Wedding bells were ringing for a fellow Sigma Nu when John met his future wife, Mary Margaret Lippert. Married for 36 years, they were blessed with three children: Amy, Margaret and Sutton. Together, the Clark family has lived a life of love-for each other, their extended families, many friends-and our Lord, Jesus Christ. John understood that "we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." He made a living as a petroleum engineer; first, with Southwest Energy Production Company, then with Mustang Fuel Corporation and later, Halliburton Oil Producing Company. In 2000, John co-founded Blue Dolphin Production, LLC with partners David L. Arms and David S. Pletcher. In business and in life, he walked in the way of honor. He also served in the light of truth—as an elder and president of his congregation. John is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Sutton; daughters, Margaret and her fiancée Austin Starrett; Amy and her husband, Kristian Bahr; grandchildren, Daniel and Katie Bahr; his sister, Deby and her husband John Snodgrass; mother-in-law, Martha Lippert and brothers-in-law, Rick Lippert; Tom Lippert and his wife, Mary; John Lippert and his wife, Kathy; Joel Lippert and his wife, Diane; aunts Jane Witte, Ginger Hauschild and her husband Al; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
