Johnie Beth Caraway-Matthews, 87, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024. She was born on August 18th, 1937, to parents Donnie and Johny Caraway.
She graduated high school in 1955 from Southeast HS in Oklahoma City and went on to achieve her bachelor's from Central State University and master's from Oklahoma City University.
Johnie was a beloved schoolteacher and the proud owner of the popular coffee shop, Sword in the Stone, located in Oklahoma City. The coffee shop was not just a place for delicious beverages, but a hub for music and poetry nights, bringing joy to all who entered.
Johnie dedicated her life to teaching children, shaping young minds for their future. She also had a brief stint as an extra on the TV show "Dallas", adding to her list of accomplishments.
Outside of her professional life, Johnnie had a deep love for animals, especially larger dogs. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, as well as indulging in a variety of music and drama.
Johnie will be remembered for her kind heart, her passion for teaching, and her vibrant spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her Brother Jeff Jones, Father Johny Holmes Caraway, and Mother Donnie Elizabeth Winn-Jones.
She is survived by sisters Judy Millican and Diane Parks.
Rest in peace, Johnie Beth Caraway-Matthews. You will be deeply missed.
