Jon Furman Puryear, 73, born January 27, 1941 in Oklahoma City to Furman Mathers and Wanda Lee Puryear. Jon was a graduate of Classen High School where he played tennis and basketball and enjoyed general hell-raising with his high school friends (hehe). Along with his father, he owned and operated Black & Puryear Paint Mfg. Co. which has been in business since 1944 in the Oklahoma City area.
Jon was an avid car guy, boater, water-skier and scuba diver and shared those passions with family & friends. He was a long-time friend of Bill W. He served in the National Guard for six years and was the ultimate OU football fan.
Jon married Joanne Painter and had two children, Laura Louise Puryear and Douglas Furman Puryear who survive him. He then married his high school sweetheart, Martha Bell Puryear and is survived by her and her two children Dr. Christopher Bozarth and Beth Bozarth Wanamaker. Between them, they have four grandchildren Trey Furman Puryear, Noel Samuel Puryear, Gabrielle Bozarth, and Colby Holloway Bozarth.
He died peacefully December 3, 2014 surrounded by friends and family. He is loved and will be missed. He was a kind and gentle man.
