July 20, 1957 — December 20, 2021

Joseph Abraham Merhib, Jr.

Joe was born on 07/20/1957 to Libby and Joseph A. Merhib, Sr in Utica, New York. After Joe graduating Midwest City High School in 1975 where he was named to the Oklahoma All State Football squad, Joe went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Education from Florida Atlantic University and a Master's Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. Joe lived in Palm Beach Florida for many years prior to returning to Oklahoma where he worked as an assistant chef at the Ritz Carlton. For over a decade, Joe taught in the Edmond school system at Sequoyah Middle School and enjoyed interacting with his student both academically and as a Coach in a variety of sports. On the weekends and evenings, he could be found tutoring students or driving the school bus to events. Joey had an abiding love for God, golf, cooking, community service and his family and friends. He was an excellent golfer having won the City Fourball tournament in the past and often delivered delicious homemade soups to his friends. He had an admirable spirit of volunteerism and passed while volunteering at the Salvation Army during the Holidays. He could often be found delivering meals to home bound folks, teaching Sunday School, teaching underprivileged children how to play golf via 'First Tee' program, or simply feeding the birds at Hefner Park.Joe's smile and love of life was infectious and that is how we will always remember him. His life was a living example of a favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."Joe was predeceased by his father, Joseph A. Merhib, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Libby Merhib, sister and spouse Drs. Lorraine and Robert Wilson, nephew and niece and their spouses: Rob and Jennifer Wilson and Dr. Megan Wilson and Lee Blanchard and great niece Emma Wilson.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, at 11:00 am.
