Joyce Ann Griffin

Joyce Ann Edwards Griffin passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joyce was born April 19, 1937 in Perry Oklahoma to Ernest and Dessie Edwards. She and her two sisters, Betty Edwards Hronopulos and Mary Edwards VanDusen helped her parents run a family grocery store in Enid, Oklahoma where she graduated from Enid High School. On April 11, 1958 she married Paul Francis Griffin. Soon after they moved to Oklahoma City, and they were happily married for over 60 years. She had 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Joyce loved to travel all over the country and over the years she and Paul were able to visit much of the United States. The focus and joy of her life was her family. She was proud of everything her children and grandchildren accomplished. Her home was always open to family, friends, and neighbors and was often bustling with people. Whether it was birthday parties, the holidays, or family card games, she delighted in bringing everyone together. Speaking of card games, her favorite, "Oh Hell", would bring out a healthy competition amongst everyone, so much so that the rules were altered and a second deck added to accommodate more than 12 players. Joyce had a gift for advising and counseling on matters both small and large. With her help, tough problems became solvable, and over the years many family and friends benefitted from her loving and honest encouragement. She loved reading and had an appreciation for her family history. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Paul, her two sisters, Betty and Mary, her daughter Catherine Baird (Robert), son Stephen Griffin (Sheryl); daughter Teresa Smith (David), grandchildren, Rebecca Baird Hodson, Rayne Smith, Sean Baird, Felicia Smith Hamilton, Joshua Griffin, Analeigh Griffin, and Emma Griffin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
