Julius Albert Schallenmuller II (Jul, Papa Jul, Moose), 96, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was born on December 8, 1927, in Oak Park, Illinois. He is the son of the late Albert and Christine Schallenmuller. Julius was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Naomi Schallenmuller. Survivors include children, Teresa H. Bacon of Edmond OK, William C. (Carol) Stricker of Wichita KS, Anita J. Morgan of Sacramento CA; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Julius dearly loved his siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and he always enjoyed hearing of their activities from their childhood to their adult years.
Julius served a distinguished career in the U.S. Army for over 20 years. He retired as a Major, Artillery and served tours in Alaska, Iran, Greenland and Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and several other commendations in his service to the country.
In his civilian career, he was City Manager for Airport Parking Company of America for 13 years and for 6 years he served as Assistant Page Director for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He loved mentoring young people for the future. He then focused on his favored vocation, caring for his beloved wife Christine until her passing.
Julius was an avid RVer and enjoyed traveling across the country. He earned a commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating and enjoyed recreational aviation. He faithfully served as a volunteer at Oklahoma Heart Hospital for several years spreading his joyful cheer to everyone crossing his path. For many years he was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Midwest City and then Quail Springs United Methodist Church.
Julius and Christine lived near Tinker Air Force Base when the F5 tornado hit May 1999. They lost everything and relocated to north Oklahoma City. He lived at Epworth Villa over 20 years and was an active in volunteer, serving as President of the Epworth Villa Resident Association. He also served on the Epworth Villa Board of Directors as liaison. Our family is grateful for the care and friendship extended to Julius by the caring staff of Epworth Villa Memory Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Brill Chapel of Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City. A committal service will be held at Fort Sill National Cemetery at a future date. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association or to Epworth Villa.
