Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother is now resting peacefully with her Lord and beloved husband Douglas Joseph Child who proceeded her in death.
She was a woman of great faith and enduring strength, who leaves behind one of the most fruitful and loving legacies of which her family is proud to be a part.
She obtained her nursing certification/registration from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in 1943. She served as supervisor and clinical instructor at St, Joseph Hospital before joining the United States Army Nurse Corp during WW II, where she achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. She was awarded the Bronze Star and Victory Medal for her service in Okinawa.
She and Douglas lovingly married in 1947 and had five children before he was taken from his family in 1965. She raised their children with a quiet strength and taught them the importance of service. She also continued her nursing career at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, where she became the nursing supervisor for pediatric unit until she retired.
One of her greatest passions was her never-ending love for her Lord and the Catholic Church. She was one of the founding members of St. Eugene Catholic Church. And was an active participant with both St. Eugene Church and School. In December of 1997 she received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, which is the declaration of honor for distinguished service to the Catholic Church.
June is survived by her son Gilbert and wife Julie; daughter Bernadette and husband James Jordan; daughter Mary and husband Thomas Martin; daughter Ann and husband Brad Fussell; daughter Jennifer and husband Frank Patterson, and her brother-in-law Reverend John F. Child. Her lasting legacy includes 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
