June Hardy died June 8, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born January 17, 1936 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Carolyn Mae and Clyde Vernon Ashley. She was a graduate of Pauls Valley High School, class of 1954. She married Leslie T. Hardy on October 25, 1958, to whom she was married until his death in 2007. They lived in Enid, Oklahoma from 1958 to 1964, when they moved to Oklahoma City.
All her life she sought intellectual stimulation and expression of her immense creativity. She was not content to be a housewife, although she enjoyed canning vegetables and fruits, quilting, and growing flowers and edibles. She was a prolific reader and continually improved herself through education, career, and hobbies. She attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman and Southwestern Bible College in Oklahoma City to further her education. She then took up real estate, becoming a Realtor and later a Licensed Real Estate Broker. She culminated her professional career at Liberty Bank and Trust of Oklahoma as an Officer of the bank and Assets Manager.
June turned to gardening after retirement, becoming a Master Gardener. She was a very active member and officer of several garden clubs, including Oklahoma Viola Club, Oklahoma Iris Society, Oklahoma City Garden Council, and became a flower judge for the National Iris Society. She was talented in illustration and painting in watercolor and tole. She was very knowledgeable of American antiques, becoming an avid collector of furniture and glassware.
June is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Juanita (Ashley) Foote and Gloria Ashley, brothers Tipton and Vernon Ashley; and granddaughter Caitlin McKinney. She is survived by her children Karolyn Corbett and her husband Steve, Deanne McKinney, and Lorelei Hardy, all of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Brandon McKinney and his wife Emily of Springfield, MO, Megan McKinney of Oklahoma City, and Leo and Joseph Corbett of Oklahoma City. Her great-grandchildren are Sophia, Tommy, Ben, and Trevor McKinney, all of Springfield MO, and Mara Nicholas of Oklahoma City. She also has many surviving nieces and nephews throughout the U.S.
A viewing will be held at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Avenue in Oklahoma City, OK on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 8-10 a.m., with burial services to follow at Ft. Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Road, Elgin, OK at 1:00 p.m.
