Karl Joseph Schaefer, 44, of Edmond, OK, passed away March 1, 2011 after a hard fought battle with colon cancer. He was born January 27, 1967 in Ponca City to Bob and Mary Schaefer. He graduated from Ponca City HS then went on to receive his Associates degree in accounting from Northern Oklahoma College. Karl worked for Gillespie & Olgilbee CPA doing what he loved. He had a knack for numbers so tax work came easy to him. Karl was a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church where he served on the finance committee. He was a testimony to many during his battle with cancer, always smiling and trying to live out his days as normal as possible. Karl, aka Dad-man, was a great inspiration to his daughter, Rachel always showing strength and courage. Karl's greatest passion was sports officiating and mentoring to younger officials. He loved football and softball, officiating all ages from little league to college ball. His favorite of course, was going out with his crew on Friday nights for high school football games. I'm sure he is in heaven now officiating some great games! Karl is survived by his wife of 14 years, Risë of the home and his two daughters Kayla and Rachel. Other survivors include father, Bob Schaefer of Ponca City; brothers, Roger and wife Robin of Spring TX; James and wife Diann of Newkirk; sister Carissa and husband Brian Mullenix of Ponca City. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Bonner Schaefer. Karl will be missed by many friends and colleagues whom he met throughout his life. A special thanks to the Oklahoma County Hospice staff and the Nurses and support personnel at the
Integris Hospice House for their loving care during this time.
