Katherine Hornick

Katherine Hornick joined her beloved husband "Joe" on March 26, 2014. She was born October 17, 1919 in Chepin, Yugoslavia, to parents Marie (Rigodi) Novak and Andrew Novak. At the age of 2, she and her parents moved to the United States to begin a new life and resided for many years in North Riverside, Illinois. On May 4, 1946, she married the love of her life, Joseph L. Hornick and they resided in Cicero, Illinois, where they were blessed with two children, Diana and Joe. In 1960, another chapter in their lives began when Joe and Katherine moved to Oklahoma City with the opening of the Western Electric plant. Katherine was a homemaker extraordinaire; loved to cook, and was well known for her bread dumplings, cookies and apple slices. She also enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and her nylon "scrubbies" were always in demand. She loved flowers, especially African Violets, and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds in her backyard. She is survived by her children, Diana Sarber of Oklahoma City, Joseph W. Hornick and spouse Donia, of Mustang; grandchildren Shauna McCurdy and husband Roy, Joey Hornick and spouse Leslie, Shannon Love and husband Michael, and her 9 great-grandchildren Zachary, Haley, Jacob, Drue, Reese, Courtney, Addyson, Ethan and Dylan. She is also survived by her devoted Sheltie, "Lucky". She is preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Andrew Novak, an infant sister Josephine, husband Joseph and son-in-law Jim Sarber. Special appreciation for the care she received at Canterbury Inn and Crossroads Hospice. She was a gracious lady and will be missed by all of her friends and family. Katherine's funeral service will be Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N. May, Oklahoma City. Family will be present at a visitation Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.
