Katherine Massad

Katie Massad fell asleep in the Lord on April 15, 2016. She was born the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Albert Michael Aboussie and Kamala (Haddad) Aboussie on October 16, 1926 in the small town of Hollis, OK. Katie was the youngest of 6 children, born 15 years after her oldest brother Mitchell. She attended schools in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. She played the saxophone in the Vernon, TX marching band at all foot-ball games throughout high school. Katie was living in Wichita, KS during WWII when she met and married the love of her life Emil, whom she met after the war. They courted at the Labor Day dance and many other gatherings between Oklahoma City and Wichita. They started their family in Oklahoma City and were active members of St. Elijah, where she was a devoted member of the Choir. She was a wonderful cook and made sure the family was together every weekend. She was a faithful member of the Bonne Heure Club and loved her Bonne Heure sisters. She had a one-of-a-kind feisty personality – love and laughter were her gifts to us all! Katie was a master salesperson and worked at many retail shops including Kambers, The Pants Parlour, and even owned her own shop in Springdale Shopping Center called Katie's Gifts. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Emil R.; her parents; her siblings, Mitchell Aboussie, Josephine Toma, Tony Aboussie and Kamal Aboussie. She is survived by her sister, Margie Aboussie; her children, Richard Massad and wife Kathy, Judy Carr, Janet Massad-Brandenberg and her husband John (Norman), Jeff Massad and his wife Sherrie (Edmond); 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, family and friends for whom she always loved to put on a pot of coffee for a visit! The family will be available to greet friends during visitation at the funeral home, Monday evening from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund at St. Elijah.
