Kathleen Tener Gordy, "Katie", was born December 13, 1947 to Mary Katherine & Ray Tener. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Gordy, in 1969 after dating for six years and they were married for 52 loving, faithful years. They had five daughters, six granddaughters, and two grandsons.Katie attended Rosary Catholic School and graduated from McGuinness High School in 1966. While attending these schools, she made lifelong friends and often spearheaded reunions. She obtained her BS. from OSU in three years, graduating in 1969. While at OSU, she was a member of the Mortor Board and a Counselor at Wentz Hall. Katie then received her MS from OU in Human Relations with an Emphasis in Chemical Dependency in 1987, completing her internship ·at Valley Hope in Cushing, OK. .A member of La Leche League and Oklahoma Prepared Childbirth Association, Katie had her forth child in a Birth Center, and her fifth child at home.Katie was a founding member of Birthright of Oklahoma·, now Willow, in 1973. · Throughout her life she served as a phone volunteer, director of Mutual Assistance Homes, speaker, trainer, and educator about the preciousness of all human life, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors for this organization from 1995 to 2022.Katie knew Bill W. through Al-Anon and Overeaters Anonymous.With her husband Jack, Katie provided counseling and marriage preparation to many engaged couples through Love and Deed. She was active in Neighbor for Neighbor; volunteered for Santa's Cause, at the Boys and Girls Club, Mercy Hospital and Sister BJ's Pantry, and spent countless summers taking youth to Catholic Heart Workcamp. Katie especially loved telling stories about the 17 years she spent leading Catholic youth on these Catholic Heart Workcamp mission trips, where she was affectionately known as "Mama Gordy".Mrs. Gordy was a beloved teacher who taught Sophomore and Junior English at Putnam City West High School from 1969-1972; and Junior High history, religion, and English at her alma mater, Rosary School, from 1984-1993. During that time, she also served as Vice Principal for eight years at Rosary. Mrs. Gordy kept in touch with many former students touching lives beyond the classroom.In June 1993, she and her family become founding members of St. Monica Catholic Church in Edmond. She began working there as the Director of Religious Education and in 1994 was named Pastoral Associate to Bishop Tony Taylor. While at St. Monica's Katie continued to guide the Religious Education Program, was Coordinator of Volunteers, and provided Spiritual Counseling to people of all denominations. After retiring from St. Monica's, Katie continued to see numerous clients for Spiritual Counseling up until her death.Katie taught many adult courses, including Bible Study, Renew, Parenting and The Artist's Way. She was an excellent storyteller, joke teller and public speaker. She often said she wanted to be remembered as someone who led others to Christ.Suffering from a broken heart after her husband's passing in April 2021, Katie succumbed to heart failure on July 14th, 2022, surrounded by her four daughters, Jenny, Jessica, Jackie, and Julie as one of her most favorite songs, "I'm So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters, played! It was a joyous and peaceful passing into paradise.Katie is preceded in death by her precious husband, Jack, her parents and younger sister, Margaret Shawver {Gary).Katie is survived by daughters and their families; Jenny Farris and children Caitlin Archer (Scott), Braden and Anna Marie; Jessica Smith {Charlie) and son Mason; Jackie Callister (Chris) and daughter Beatrix; Julie Gordy; Joanna Gordy and her daughters, Dorena, Jorgia, and Vera. Katie is also survived by her older sister, Rosemary Donnell (Jim).A wake will be held Sunday, July 17th at 7:00 pm at Smith and Kernke, 14624 N. May in OKC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 18th, at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 900 S.
