Kay Reading Eby died on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at the age of 88 in Edmond, Okla. She was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Sherman, Texas, to the late James Lee Reading, Sr. and Fran Hobbs Reading of Dallas. Kay grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School. She received her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University. Her journalism career spanned over 50 years and included newspaper reporting, technical writing, layout and design, copy editing, proofreading, and teaching. Kay taught English and journalism in the Dallas Independent School District for 18 years and sponsored both the yearbook and newspaper at Thomas Jefferson High School. She had lived in Plano, Texas, since 1992 and moved to Edmond in 2022. Kay was active in groups at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, including Acosta-Smith, and was a member of the Mary Shirley McGuire Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Plano. She enjoyed reading and politics and attending symphony concerts, operas and plays. And she always considered her family her number one priority. She is predeceased by her brother, James Lee Reading, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Louis Rener, Arcadia, Okla.; granddaughter and husband, Abigail and Austin Allen, Edmond; grandson and fiancé, Cole Rener and Leighann Gardner, Austin; great-grandson, Samuel Allen, Edmond; and nephew, Kevin Reading, Dallas. Extended family includes cousins Helen and Mike Flood, Bloomington, Ill.; Wendy and Dan Coyne, Los Cerrillos, N.M.; and W. Gay Reading and John Martin, Lexington, Ky. A Requiem will take place in Dallas on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Ave., Dallas, with a reception immediately following.
