Kenneth Burras Hanebaum

Kenneth Burras Hanebaum completed his life on Friday, August 7, 2015. He was born March 20, 1931 in Kansas City, MO and was the son of Herbert and Gladys (Burras) Hanebaum. Ken married Margie Jean Sturges on February 17, 1956. They were married 58 years before she went to be with Jesus in 2014. He (they) lived primarily in Oklahoma and he finished out his days in Piedmont. Ken was known as kindhearted and friendly. He enjoyed a good practical joke and loved being with his wife, family, friends and animals. He graduated from The University of Kansas City in Kansas City, MO with a degree in Geology. He served in the army during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After the army he held various jobs in the oil and gas industry. We, the family, will miss him. We will miss conversations at the table or on the phone. He was so generous with his possessions. He always wanted to help. He passed on an amazing work ethic, being loyal, taking good care of the things you've been given. He loved his wife and treated her as a treasure. Ken is survived by his sons: Kent Hanebaum and his wife Nancy and Steve Hanebaum and his wife Melanie; his daughters: Cheryl Wilkerson and her husband Randy and Darcy Riner and her husband John; his grandchildren: Katie Hanebaum, Kelsey Hanebaum, Bailey Wilkerson, Tyler Hanebaum, Blair Hanebaum, Jake Wilkerson, Alec Riner, and Joel Riner. Ken's brothers: Bill Hanebaum of California and Pete Hanebaum of Georgia. The family will receive friends and family from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Smith & Kernke, 14624 N. May Ave. Funeral services will also be at Smith & Kernke at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
