Kenneth Guy Shouse was born May 17, 1956 and died peacefully Friday, December 8, 2017 in Oklahoma City surrounded by family. Throughout his adult life he was known as Ken, but to his family who loved and adored him, he will always be Kenny. Visitation with the family will be Monday, December 11, 2017 from 4 - 6pm at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City. Ken's life will be celebrated Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 10 a.m. at Chapel Hill Methodist Church, Oklahoma City, followed by burial in Okmulgee next to his father.
Ken was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but the family moved to Oklahoma City when he was four. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1974. He loved hunting, working on cars, and rock and roll music. Ken was active in DeMolay Masonic organization, holding many local and state offices.
Ken received his Bachelors degree in Political Science from Louisiana Tech University. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he completed his masters in Urban Studies and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa. Ken gave the commencement address at his law school graduation.
Ken practiced law for several years in the Tulsa area. He became involved with the Manufactured Housing Industry, and lived throughout the country as a legal advisor and trainer for management groups. He lobbied for the industry through the Florida Manufactured Housing Association.
During his time in Florida, Ken became an accomplished scuba diver, enjoying dives throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Ken also began woodworking, a hobby that became a very important part of his adult life. He took classes, studied the art, purchased a shop full of tools and supplies, and spent many happy hours working in his wood shop. He sold a few pieces at craft shows and local art galleries, but his real love was making items for gifts to the special people in his life. If you received one of his wood pieces, you felt the love and hours of painstaking attention to detail that went into every piece he created.
In the past 15 years, medical challenges have faced Ken, including a stroke 6 years ago, after which he returned to his family in Oklahoma. He never looked back on any of these setbacks, and worked hard to keep moving forward in his life. Ken was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. He was loved by his Sunday school class, and by everyone who came in contact with him through his many forms of volunteering throughout the church, including managing the transportation program.
Ken would tell you that he was the "Funny Guy" and his goal was always to get a smile on the face of everyone he met. He was a casual guy, and on most days could be found wearing one his special Hawaiian shirts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Shouse, and step-father, Harry Krampf. He is survived by his mother, LaFaune Krampf of Tulsa.
Ken will also be missed by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Tena and Lance Highfill of Oklahoma City, and Patty and Phil Hershberger of Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
He is survived by nieces and nephews that grew up with their Uncle Kenny: Justin Hershberger, Sapulpa; Amy and Ryan Daniels, Sapulpa; and Brian and Micah Highfill of Edmond.
Uncle Kenny was loved and adored by his great nieces and nephews: Camdan and Sloan Highfill, Graham and Griffin Hershberger, Liam, Harper, and Rowan Daniels.
He is also survived by step-daughter Tiffany McNeese of Azle, Texas, and her son Jakobi.
Heaven now has a special angel - a woodworking, Hawaiian shirt wearing funny guy, with a big heart, love and compassion for all. He will be sorely missed.
