Kenneth V. Hughes, Jr.

Ken Hughes passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord on 1/3/21. Born on 10/26/1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to parents, Kenneth V. Hughes, Sr. and Dorothy Bailey Hughes. He grew up in Indianapolis, IN and attended Shortridge HS where he played football and basketball. He attended Indiana University and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He later served proudly in the USAF in Albany, GA. It was at this point in his life that he rekindled his relationship with the love of his life and future bride Peggy Ragan. They were married on July 4, 1953. He started his family and furniture sales career in Oklahoma City and later moved to Memphis, Houston and back o OKC where they would live out their days with their three children: Leslie, Marcie and Tad. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg, brothers, Bailey and Joe; and his son-in-law, Michael Ryan. He is survived by his children, Leslie Hughes-Lind (Jon), Marcie Boughton (Kent), and KV "Tad" Hughes, III, MD (Dawn); grandchildren, Will Ryan (Chelsea), Michael Lind, Taylor Hughes, Bailey Ryan (Liz), Alex Lind, and Sam Hughes; and many loving nieces and nephews. Ken lived his life to make people laugh; his story telling and funny anecdotes were his calling card. He had many friends in his days of traveling his "territory" for Sealy Mattress Co. and at home with his dinner club group, walking buddies, the rowdy domino crew and church friends. He always had a sense for those in need; this was complimented by his giving spirit. He was a devoted leader and choir member at Covenant Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and later became an active member at Crossings Community Church. He cherished his time with children and found the perfect program to help at Ridgeview Elementary tutoring kids. Over his 91 years, all who met Ken walked away with a smile and a lasting memory from one of his tales-believable or not. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Ridgeview Elementary PTA Tutoring program in his memory: 10010 Ridgeview Dr. Oklahoma City, OK 73120. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future when we can be together safely.
